Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - FAS

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - FAS and Fetal Alcohol Effects - FAE are caused by the expectant mother consuming alcohol during the term of her pregnancy.

The child is permanently afflicted with a diminished ability to function mentally, physically, emotionally and socially.

This impairment of the child's and future adult's abilities for reasoning and self control result in problems at school, antisocial and delinquent activities, increases in drug abuse and rates of crime. We all pay a significant price, both economically and in terms of a loss of quality of life in our communities, as a result of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - FAS and Fetal Alcohol Effects - FAE.

The occurrence of FAS / FAE is very high. It happens at all socioeconomic levels of our society and is not bounded by any particular cultural group.

The problems associated with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - FAS and Fetal Alcohol Effects - FAE have been magnified by the significant absence of attention to this important social issue both by governments and society.

Fortunately Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - FAS and Fetal Alcohol Effects - FAE are totally preventable through educational and public awareness efforts.
